It's just a collection of small-scale 'open worlds', if you can call them that.The space segment is also pretty short and sweet but we get to see Mario up close and how the model reacts to some of the more realistic lighting techniques employed by the Unreal Engine. I hope that eventually they do give that treatment to this game, since it isn't something like Paper Mario/TTYD where there's an actual step-by-step story progression that would be potentially messed with. They can basically take what made the original SM64 a bit lacking from today's perspective and basically fill in the holes and smooth the rough edges. Or getting your cheeks burned in Lava Lava Land in the glory of high definition. Imagine running along bowser's road after having made the jump to his portrait and falling into the trap door floor.

It'd be both bringing the original back and then adding more original content so that it's simultaneously a new experience in terms of substance rather than it being the same old house but with a new coat of paint, if you will. I think that'd actually make for a really epic reboot/remake.

Imagine exploring the castle, jumping through portraits, but this time the graphics and controls are Super Mario Odyssey levels of smooth, and they keep the general basic designs of the original levels but then expand upon the original designs making each level several times larger and with more to do. I never thought about it before, but I really would like a complete redesign and updating of Super Mario 64.
